Your privacy matters to us. This policy describes the personal data Applied Skills collects, how it is used and the rights you have over it.
01Who we are
Applied Skills is a skills-training platform run by Jalei Foundation ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Platform, why we collect it and the choices you have. It is written with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other applicable laws in mind.
02Data we collect
During registration and onboarding we ask for:
- Identity: your name, date of birth, gender, and optionally marital status and family or guardian names.
- Contact: mobile number (verified by OTP), email address, optional alternate and guardian numbers.
- Address: state, district, village or locality, post office, block, police station and PIN code.
- Education and background: highest education, board and year details, current enrolment, language skills, employment status, work experience and income ranges, and your career goals and learning preferences.
- Identification: only the last four digits of your Aadhaar number. We never ask for or store your full Aadhaar number.
- Consents you give, such as sharing your profile with employers or partners.
While you use the Platform we also record your enrolments, lesson and quiz progress, assessment scores, certificates, meeting attendance, support tickets and messages, notifications, and basic technical data such as device, browser and log information needed to keep the service secure.
If you pay for a course, our payment partner Razorpay collects your payment details directly. We receive only the transaction outcome, amount, order and payment identifiers, and the invoice details needed for our records.
03How we use your data
- To create and secure your account and verify your identity.
- To deliver courses, track progress, run assessments and issue and verify certificates.
- To link you with a mentor and let mentors and support staff help you.
- To process payments, issue invoices and handle refunds.
- To send service messages such as OTPs, reminders, support replies and course notifications.
- To measure outcomes, improve the Platform, and (with your consent) help connect certified learners with employers and partner organisations.
- To prevent fraud and abuse and to meet legal obligations.
04Who can see your data
Your mentor, our support and administrative staff, and (where you have given consent) partner organisations can see the information they need for the purposes above. A certificate's verification page publicly shows only the holder's name, course, issue date and validity.
We use service providers to run the Platform, for example Google Firebase (authentication, database and storage), Razorpay (payments), Cloudflare (video delivery and storage) and Google reCAPTCHA (abuse prevention). They process data on our behalf under their own security commitments. We do not sell your personal data.
05Retention
We keep your data while your account is active and for as long as needed for the purposes above, including keeping certificate and payment records for audit and legal reasons. When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.
06Security
We use access controls, encrypted connections and role-based permissions to protect your data. No system is completely secure, so please keep your login details private and tell us promptly if you suspect misuse of your account.
07Your choices and rights
- You can view and update most profile details from the Profile page.
- You can manage notification preferences from Settings.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw a consent, by contacting us. Withdrawing a consent or deleting data may limit the services we can provide.
- You can raise a complaint with us first, and with the relevant data protection authority as permitted by law.
08Children
The Platform is intended for users aged 14 and above. Where a user is under 18 we rely on the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has registered without appropriate permission, please contact us.
09Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and, for material changes, notify you on the Platform.
